The Secret to Radiant Skin

There are few beauty oils that excite me as much as Prickly Pear Seed Oil. Let‘s look at where this oil is from and just some of the reasons why it is a must in any natural skincare aficionados’ skincare arsenal.

Opuntia Ficus Indica is the Latin name for the prickly pear plant. Other names include India Fig Opuntia or Barbary Fig. A member of the cactus family, it can thrive through long droughts, producing fruit that contains small black seeds. It is these seeds from which the finest quality, precious oil is extracted, although lower quality, cheap oil on the market may have also been obtained from the fruit instead. This is where we pride ourselves with 100% certified and lab tested oil that gives you the best purest quality.

The production of premium Prickly Pear Seed Oil is incredibly labour intensive and time consuming — it takes nearly 30 kilograms of seed, or 8 tonne of the fruit, to produce just one litre of oil! Our family farm harvest the fruit by hand, then wash it thoroughly before drying it in the Free State sunshine. The seeds are also extracted by hand, before a complex machine is then used to cold-press them.

Skin benefits from using Prickly Pear Seed Oil:

Packed with antioxidants & essential fatty acids

Shown to moisturise and soften wrinkles, stimulate new cell growth, calm inflammation, help restore elasticity, and brighten skin, Prickly Pear Seed Oil is extremely rich in vitamins E and K, essential fatty acids and antioxidants. The oil has a high concentration (60.5%) of linoleic acid, an omega-6 essential fatty acid which is known to nourish and repair skin.

Fast absorbing

Prickly Pear Seed Oil absorbs almost immediately leaves little or no residue so it can be used morning and night, either on its own or before your moisturiser for an extra dose of mega-nutrients. It is the facial oil for people who think they can’t use face oils, thanks to the ultra-lightweight nature.

High in vitamin E

Vitamin E is a naturally-occurring antioxidant that acts as a free radical scavenger and offers fabulous anti-inflammatory benefits — and Prickly Pear Seed Oil boasts nearly one and half times the amount found in Argan Oil. Vitamin E is known to help heal wounds faster and aid in skin regeneration and is a marvellous ingredient to have in your anti-ageing arsenal.

Incredible skin brightening gifts

Thanks to the unique composition of the oil with its high levels of vitamin E and K and the natural antioxidants that stimulate collagen production, Prickly Pear Seed Oil helps brighten under-eye circles and improves the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin pigmentation.  This precious oil is unparalleled in its ability to brighten the appearance of skin.

Tightens the appearance of pores

Essential fatty acids in Prickly Pear Seed Oil keep the collagen layer of your skin nourished, and this helps your pores tighten for a more flawless appearance.

A hero for just about any skin type!

Prickly Pear Seed Oil is ideal for mature skin due to its exceptional hydrating and illuminating ability, but because it also has a comedogenic rating of 0 out of 5 (meaning it should not clog pores), it is effective with combination skin or those who struggle with acne too. For those wanting to tackle the signs of ageing before they happen, Prickly Pear Seed Oil is a must, particularly if toxin-free, natural skincare is important.

It took us nearly a year, and four thorough trials with potential partners, to settle on the Prickly Pear Seed Oil quality and purity you deserve at home.  Through this investigative approach, we saw first-hand the breadth of different quality oils in the market. We learned that some ‘prickly pear seed oils’ are fake or tampered with, and this explained how they could be sold at lower prices.

Not only do we believe we’ve supplied one of the best quality Prickly Pear Seed Oils available, but our family farm and hand selected local farmers work with less fortunate communities — and our/their business is built around the belief that jobs, more than charity, are the key to transforming lives. When you decide to add Petrichor to your skincare routine, not only will you be doing the very best for your skin but you’ll be part of a bigger picture that is helping providing income to people who need it and supporting sustainable development.
